hazy mornings part 1 : speckled

HERE IT IS. My university dorm room in all its pristine glory.
(Kidding... You KNOW the floor is a cluttered mess and my desk a residual pile of untouched work.)

Basically everything here is my favorite thing ever:

Baseball caps & cuffed jeans, DIY Nylong mag spread, girl crushes, breakfast food photos I shot, speckled oxfords, makeshift photobooth strip of win & I on fourth of july, and of course, the lovely foot model herself, Michelle!

I don't know how it's possible to continually get more inspired and excited about the aspect of creating each time you see someone, but its definitely true of us. In just a few short months, she's become my creative partner/explorer in crime and I'm beyond excited to see how far we can push ourselves.
She is "guest writing" part 2 of this 3 part series so stay tuned!

Natural light and sleepy shadows,
long limbs and longer flowers
alive in a city
of smoke

This was a concept I had been itching to create, and a few months ago, Felix helped me turn it into a reality.
We took a handful of photos, but somehow this one just stands stronger by itself.

Wish I could update this blog more, but life has been keeping me on my toes, with no sign of
slowing down.

Happy almost February!

winter to spring

TOPMAN AND TREES... must things be more complex than that? I'm almost three weeks into the quarter here in LA and it's already reaching
throat- drying, sinus threatening temperatures, so I suppose it's finally time to acknowledge the end of winter and a gradual shift back into color.

A few things that I'm in love with now (always) :

1) floral androgyny
2) mist so beautiful it haunts you
3) endless forest fading into nothingness
4) mermaids

5) organized jumbles and clean lines
6) shadows
7) the surreal, stunning faces of topman
8) staying in the room on Friday nights when virtually half the world is out partying and creating these sets with a
mocha latte and chocolate chip cookie as my company <3
9) lying in the dark, talking to old friends and thinking of nothing, really
10) pockets

BLACK TEXTURES AGAINST CONSTRUCTED CREAM,  its the boy- meets- girl contrast, the combination of masculine/feminine
that attracts me time and time again.

Darkness doesn't overpower purity, it provides an intrigue.

So it's still January, but winter feels over-ish, especially since I'm back in perpetually sunny Southern California.  Still, that doesn't stop me from
donning OPI's "after dark in lincoln park", putting Revlon's "Black Cherry" on my lips, and listening to anything and everything by Lorde.
Here's to a new school year! Time to chase the adventure once again!

no paper moon

Thursday, January 9, 2014

“THE MOON HAD BEEN observing the earth close-up longer than anyone. It must have witnessed all of the phenomena occurring -
and all of the acts carried out - on this earth. But the moon remained silent; it told no stories. All it did was embrace the heavy past with
a cool, measured detachment. On the moon there was neither air nor wind. Its vacuum was perfect for preserving memories unscathed.
No one could unlock the heart of the moon.

Aomame raised her glass to the moon and asked,
“Have you gone to bed with someone in your arms lately?”
The moon did not answer.
“Do you have any friends?” she asked.
The moon did not answer.
“Don’t you get tired of always playing it cool?”
The moon did not answer.”

“This is no honky-tonk parade. 1Q84 is the real world, where a cut draws real blood, where pain is real pain and fear is real fear.
The moon in the sky is no paper moon.”

I think finishing 1Q84 alone is something to celebrate, because getting through part III was not a walk in the park. A lot of people have said it - this book is redundant, and unnecessarily long to the point of degradation and I agree. But I also found certain sentences to be as fantastical as always, and his words strikingly eerie and magical at once, if not over-thought by the reader. Took these photos the morning before I left home for LA, with a few favorite things (peppermint hot cocoa, my mom's refurbished wrist watch, and our new succulent holder from Paxton's Gate). These objects can all be seen as symbols from 1Q84... but we won't go there.

Blanc canvas

-Blanc canvas | Corrie Bond for Marie Claire Australia, August 2012-

This is one of the best fashion editorials I have laid my eyes upon recently. White chalked out eyebrows and white paper crowns.
Clean cuts and tangled branches, and this pure, pure blanc color. Effortless.
Great inspiration to ring in the new year!
