 the to-read list
Typical Thursday night- playing around with photo overlays, rediscovering jessie j's "like a dude", making sets of books
instead of reading them.
These here are three completely different books:

The Buddha - Siddhartha
Paris versus New York- Vahram Muratyan
To Kill a Mockingbird- Harper Lee

The element they all share (besides success) is their aesthetic.
When you have such well designed artwork, how could you not pick up a book based on it's cover?

Have a lovely weekend!

 A Floral Story
Last Monday was surreally beautiful. Idyllic enough to compensate for the absolutely blah weather that followed in the remainder of the week.
But this is the San Francisco I know &love, that I'll miss like crazy come fall semester.
Bright and early Monday morning, after shoving my entire snack pantry into our backpacks, Win and I headed over to our local beach
(sutro baths, landsend, legion of honor, cliff house) & shot photos all. day. long.
Of the 250+ we took, these are my favorite, and believe me it was more than hard to choose.
Oh the woos of having adorably photogenic friends...

-photos of Win by me-

I'm always throwing out directions like a madman; she's willing to try pretty much anything.
So much love for this girl.

 Nearing the golden hour
Those little orange sun spots (lens-hexagons if you will) make my knees weak. Let's skip over this semester and go straight to summer, shall we?
Win took an entire set of photos of me in another (albeit darker+moodier) floral story so keep an eye out for part two!

Monsters at heart

 "Monsters" by Angus Stone
Basically, the hobbit meets moonrise kingdom... etherealized. Such a beautiful video. There's nothing quite like white sunlight streaming through an endless forest of trees & an army of children with feathers and rocks charging at a very bearded, very grown man.
Since we have a three day weekend, I'm taking my sweet time wandering around online, and aside from various food-spiration posts, this is the best thing I've found all month.
Have a great weekend!

Cause in the dark
There's monsters, they cry alone
They're waiting
For you to come along and play

Cause we're monsters at heart

At heart, at heart
There's monsters in their hearts
Their hearts

the restless heart, the promised land

Portland, Oregon
Food-stalking aside, we spent a good amount of time walking aimlessly through this city of vintage gems. From perfectly displayed skulls+antlers, to ultra sleek, modern interiors, the craftsmanship in Portland is definitely impressive. How we didn't buy anything in this tax-less haven is beyond me!

Portland : for all my foodies

 -Portland, Oregon with the girls-

At the end of December, Rach, Mon, and I took a little trip to Portland, where we ate our way through every district of the city, and braved the cold (as in near frost-bite) on a daily basis. I have to say, Portland definitely knows food, and thankfully we did enough walking to compensate for our indulgence. Here's a little peek into our daily food hopping adventures!

I. Every morning:

1)blackberry croissant 2) bread pudding 3) apple gallet
-ken's artisan bakery, northwest portland-

II. Lunch/other excuses to eat:

1) waffle window  2) bollywood theater indian

-spicy noodle curry from pok pok thai, veggie burger from melt, asian fusion from isabel's-

IV. The little gems:
-almond toffee, pear/brie, lavender, strawberry/balsamic vinegar ice cream at Salt& Straw, mexican hot chocolate at Bean&Tree, pumpkin spice chai tea at House of Chai-

Friends who can stop counting calories for four days and just enjoy eating in bliss are the best kind. The food scene in this city won me over, but looking back at these photos, I'll always associate our trip with cold fingers& too many layers, well dressed men, 12am chai, snowflakes in eyelashes, photo booth failures, crosswords & naughty nuns.

Hello, spring semester

On the steps of the met... kind of.
Reminiscing that oh so infamous cw show we all used to watch religiously
freshman year of high school. For some reason, the hierarchical stairs leading up to the met reminds me most of gossip girl. Someday (in the near future, fingers crossed) I will go to new york city and have to sit on those steps for nostalgic purposes. For now, the steps of city hall will have to do. Win and I took these photos after catching up over brunch at the ferry building, and en route to the Asian art museum, we stopped outside civic center square to have this impromptu shoot.

 Spring semester starts tomorrow,
and while I can't say I'm thrilled to be going back, I actually do feel like this winter has been one of my most productive& overall best breaks yet. From day one, it's been jam packed with outings, travels, friends, and family, so much so that I wish I had another week to myself to decompress, but that's always the case before school starts!

January Inspiration Board

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

-all images found here-
I've been making these inspiration boards via my tumblr for months now. Here's the thinking process behind it: I tend to visualize each three- four photos as its own photo set, and then try to create a coherent rhythm & scheme depending on my mood or simply whatever catches my eye. Scrolling through tumblr usually turns me into a frantic procrastination machine, but oddly enough when I'm creating these sets, it almost feels therapeutic in a weird sense. Here are the sets I've created in January so far!

2. "live, travel, adventure, bless, and don't be sorry" - Jack Kerouac
3. gentle haze, cats in snow, bon iver playing in the background
4. free people in Amsterdam. could there be anything more perfect.

5. pizza lovers unite

6. "sometimes I'm terrified of my heart; of its constant hunger for whatever it is it wants. The way it stops and starts"- Edgar Allan Poe

Which set is your favorite? Here's to an inspired week!

White Winter Hymnal

 yosemite day 2
I really can't think of a place more picturesque than this... Yosemite is the epitome of a white winter, and even though we spent a little too much time holed up avoiding the frozen outdoors, just breathing in the crisp mountain air and cozying up by the fire with steaming mexican mochas reminded me how nice it is to escape the city and spend a little time in nature with family.

1)Glaring at the camera...i don't know 2) incredible yosemite falls 3) three deer in a neat little row just asking to be photographed
My last post before updating this blog layout!
&Thank you thank you for your kind New years wishes, I hope 2013 brings as much+more happiness, growth, and creativity to everyone!
