Yosemite Day 1
It's so strange how the terrain outside Yosemite valley is completely dry but the moment you reach some invisible boundary, the world in front of you is suddenly covered in white. Pretty freaking magical.
Now sitting here in the middle of a massive food coma, alternating between michael buble and mackelmore on spotify. How does Christmas always manage to come and go so quickly every year? It is great to be back in San Francisco's mild climate after a holiday in below freezing (but beyond beautiful) Yosemite valley. Now to see how many shots survived numb fingers and snow flurries!

Christmas might be over, but here's a little inspiration for the remaining winter months:
Many more winter break photos to come!

How to study for a french final

Saturday, December 15, 2012

I don't know how you all study for finals, but this is how I do it!

Obviously the rainbow macaroons, prancing models (best stick to modeling), and love letters delivered by little blue toy boats aren't enough, which brings me to this extra bit of motivation. Here's an interview that I happily revisit every time a french quiz comes up:

Sigh...the only thing better than procrastinating is writing about it.
Good luck to everyone with exams coming up!
(resisting the urge to click Jgl's snl monologue...again... friggin youtube thumbnails)

the loft of all lofts
I know I say this about every interior I find, but THIS loft is really incredible. I love everything about it: the classic white brick walls, organic furniture, hanging plants, Moroccan style pillows, and such a great divider+ bookcase. This loft belongs to Isabel Wilson, a textile designer located in williamsburg. What I would give to have a place like this someday! I'm constantly updating my room and rearranging the artwork/layout even though I won't be here much longer because of university... Still, I'll try to get some personal room photos up sometime! And make time to figure out a new blog layout too:)

Reliving Summer

the beach called ocean

While cleaning up the plethora of photos on my desktop, I found all these shots (of varying quality) from MONTHS ago... the day before school started I believe! We were so excited for the fall semester to get going. Now it's nearly December, and we're twice as excited for it to end... So in the midst of all things burnt-orange and pumpkin and fall, I'm finally posting these. I miss the cold sand squishing between my toes, and I miss running barefoot to catch the next bus home.
Laughing at how over-edited most of these are. Most of them are screenshots from a music video we made and I think we first discovered the magic of editing around this time...

 "Wake up
It's a beautiful morning
Honey, while the sun is still shining
Wake up
Would you like to go with me?
Honey, take a run down to the beach"

Those are the lyrics (by the drums) our video was set to. Win told me that the video got muted on youtube, so I imagine we look like super cool running and dancing with our arms flapping around on halftime. All in good fun though!
Andd the background has completely disappeared. oops.

-all photos here-
It's Saturday morning now, and I've been listening to "quelqu'un m'a dit" (Carla Bruni) for the past few hours, slowly falling in love with the song. The rain outside isn't easing up but these lyrics have almost transformed the gloominess outside into something lovely.

My night at the men's fashion show yesterday was spent stocking up on discarded magazines, plotting to steal gourmet mini burgers, and regressing to high school levels of maturity. And of course, dressing the men of the night. I didn't think too much of it before hand because I came straight from school ... and as a result I didn't psyche myself out. Although I probably did hold every pair of pants out at an arm's length. My guy happened to be a happa as well (dead ringer of chanel iman's long lost twin brother), and extroverted enough for the both of us, and the entire room, really. He told me he'd just booked lady gaga's black perfume campaign the week before. I had fun, but I'm realizing that there are many sides of fashion that aren't for me, this being one. As a student, it's a good experience, but I couldn't stand to work backstage 24/7!

The Moments in Between

creamy pumpkin pie bars
I've been a total recluse at home this weekend, filling out college apps, reading gatsby, and listening to more songs from Red than I care to admit. I spent my Monday off the same way, baking these incredibly decadent bars with the family. These are the autumn sweet of all autumn sweets: creamy pumpkin pie bars that I found on Joy the Baker's blog. You can click here for the recipe!
 Random photos from today:
It's becoming a bit of a tradition to take autumn pictures with my favorite maple tree, which reminds me of "The survivor tree! It's my favorite tree. And I LIKE trees".
I really need to give Elizabethtown a second chance.

Today has been a flurry of awkward scenarios (providing the perfect dramatic reactions to Win's awkward stories that is), library creeps, baking, scheduling, and delirious exhaustion. At work I met one of the fifty french foreign exchange students from Paris. The whole thing was a bit like the unmet expectations scene from 500 days of summer...Beautiful french guy needs help. I forget my entire semester's worth of French and smile like an idiot. But at least he does too. Le sigh.

Party at gatsby's

Getting ready for Halloween has to be the most exciting part of the night!
makeup/outfit of the night
headband- anthropologie
This headband just screams t-swift doesn't it? So girly but such a great costume piece. I saw it on sale at anthropologie and I immediately thought it would be the perfect headband for Fitzgerald's Daisy!

"He had one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole external world for an instant and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself."
"I began to like New York, the racy, adventurous feel of it at night and the satisfaction that the constant flicker of men and women and machines gives to the restless eye. I liked to walk up Fifth Avenue and pick out romantic women from the crowd and imagine that in a few minutes I was going to enter their lives, and no one would ever know or disapprove. Sometimes, in my mind, I followed them to their apartments on the corners of hidden streets, and they turned and smiled back at me before they faded through a door into warm darkness. At the enchanted metropolitan twilight I felt a haunting loneliness sometimes, and felt it in others–poor young clerks who loitered in front of windows waiting until it was time for the solitary restaurant dinner– young clerks in the dusk, wasting the most poignant moments of night and life."
There's possibly nothing better than wiping all makeup off at the end of the night. Except when you're too tired to bother- we all have those nights! Anyway, this costume deserved to be worn to some little soirĂ©e but in reality, we ended up having an extremely mellow night, i.e Donnie Darko and Chinese takeout haha. Hope you had a good halloween!

"Holy Flowers"

Dazed & Confused October 2012
I always gravitate towards editorials that combine fashion with art, and there's something especially unique about the last one here. It's slightly creepy... in a really captivating& beautiful way. I've been hit with an extra bit of inspiration and energy recently, so just churning out the posts here!

Halloween and World Series madness/major SF pride this week! It's going to be a good one:)

200+ thank you's

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

I want to thank you all so much for reading! And if you happen to have landed here rather recently then hello:)This blog has been such a great creative outlet from the craziness (and dullness) that can sometimes be real life. I wish more than anything that I had time to update frequently& add a more personal touch to it, but we always have the future for that! Sometimes I'm not sure whether I'm speaking to an audience or myself, but I've come to the conclusion that it must be both, and as long as its honest it doesn't really matter. So now that I've spent a good year sharing inspiration and creating things on my own, I have to say (and I'm sure most would agree) that one of the most rewarding aspects is the feedback from you all! The blogging world seems to bring out the loveliest comments, and just people in general I've encountered on the internet!
So one more time,

Just rediscovering my childhood love of rainbow glitter...
Tubes of glitter are insanely fun to photograph (clearly)!

Below: A few designs from society6 that I've been meaning to share with you!
Shout-out to Monica and her roomie for finding these too and for having good taste in art;)

Often in design, less is more.
The top left photo is more modern and fresh, while the rest make me feel quite nostalgic!
They all work beautifully I think.

...and random photo from a few weeks ago that I edited the heck out of!

Sunday Musings

"I want to see people like tiny leaves unfurling from plants. Or lightning. That is who I know you to be. Both, all of it. Everything. You are empty and you are full to the brim. You are you and you are me and you are everything. Feel the life coursing through you. Unfurl and unravel your soul. You are nature, too. I fear we’re alternately polluting and taming ourselves just like the rest of our natural resources. You are your greatest adventure, your best resource: Give yourself all you’ve got. I’m with you, giving you, ‘it’, everything my all, too. It’s all I’ve got."
